Family Learning

What is Family Learning?

Family Learning can help parents and carers to understand more about how their children learn and encourages adults and children to learn as a family (the term ‘family’ meaning at least one parent, adult carer, grandparent, aunt or uncle working with a child). There is always a huge emphasis on learning and having fun!

Devon Family Learning offers a variety of informal courses to parents, carers and their children e.g. Maths, English, Fun with Reading, Story Sacks, Healthy Eating, Parenting, Forest Schools and Transition workshops. Family Learning courses take place in either schools or community settings (such as the library). A number of courses offer parents and carers the opportunity to gain qualifications. Family Learning can also offer support to adults wishing to gain national accreditation in literacy and numeracy. Courses are free and we can pay childcare costs to registered childcare providers.

Family Learning is ideal for parents and carers who wish to:

  •         Understand how children learn and how you can encourage and motivate them.
  •         Improve their own skills and confidence.
  •         Create resources and gain ideas to promote fun learning at home.
  •         Meet new friends!
