Key Info

Thank you for considering Okehampton Primary School for your child. We welcome pupils from two to 11 years old, although we have new starters at any time too and we invite parents and pupils to visit our school. If you would like your child to attend our school, please find full details in our Admissions Policy found on our Policies page.

Applying for a place here is straightforward. If we have space, you’ll receive an offer upon application. If we're oversubscribed, we follow a clear admissions process to prioritise applications.

All admissions are managed by Devon County Council and you can find out more information at www.devon.gov.uk/admissions. The following questions and links are designed to help you navigate your way to applying for a place for your child, whether for a September start or in year applications. The Devon Citizens Portal allows parents and carers of children, to make applications for school places, including in-year admissions (not in year transfers to schools in another authority), two-year-old funding and free school meals.

Starting School in Reception

Most children join us in Reception at the start of the school year in September. You can apply for a place through Devon County Council.

Parents of Reception-age children have several options:

  • Full-time start in September (the default offer)
  • Part-time attendance until your child reaches statutory school age (the term after their fifth birthday)
  • Deferred start within the same academic year
  • Delayed admission (for summer-born children) to the following September, with a new application required

We encourage you to speak with us if you're considering any of these options.

Applying for a Place in Another Year Group

If you're interested in a place in a different year group, please get in touch. We welcome applications throughout the year.

Key Application Dates for Devon Residents

  • Secondary school applications: Open 1 September, close 31 October
  • Primary school applications: Open 15 November, close 15 January

Apply online at: www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline

If you live in another local authority (e.g. Cornwall, Dorset, Plymouth, Somerset, or Torbay), you should apply through your own council. The closing dates are the same nationally.

In-Year Admissions

If your child needs a place after the school year has started, you can apply for an in-year admission through Devon County Council using the same online portal.
