At Okehampton Primary School what the children have to say about school is very important to us. We often run pupil questionnaires or interview pupils for their opinions about a wide range of matters from their preferred ways of learning to their preferred vegetables to go with their school meals!
Two key groups who champion the views of pupils are our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 School Councils. The school council is elected each term to represent the views of all pupils and to improve school. They have recently carried out their own Health and Safety walk of school and re written the schools Anti Bullying Policy to ensure it is all written so that all children in school can read and understand it easily. There are ongoing discussions about school dinners and making sure playtimes are fun with lots of activities.
Pupils have the opportunity to earn the title of School Ambassador in either Year 2 as top of Key stage 1 or in year 6 as the top of Key stage 2. To earn the status children have to demonstrate that they have worn the correct uniform, handed homework in regularly, made progress in Literacy and Numeracy and carried some voluntary work in school. Once children become school ambassadors they have several privileges some of which include being allowed to sit on benches in assemblies and having afternoon tea with Mrs Fox.
Mrs Fran Rickwood our Eco Champion runs several Eco Watch groups during the year. They get involved in lots of varied and fun activities during the year. Their work results in many awards for the school due to the strong influence they have on the whole school to be environmentally considerate and aware.
