Proposal for a new Church of England Primary & Nursery school

As you may be aware, Devon County Council has identified the need for a new 420 place primary school with nursery to serve new and proposed housing development in Okehampton. Having spoken to a variety of people within the community we feel that it’s important to provide a local solution to the need for more school places.

Okehampton Primary School in partnership with Okehampton College and the Diocese of Exeter, is interested in establishing the new school as a Church of England school. There is presently, no Church school option in Okehampton town and we feel this would give parents more choice.

Our vision for the new school is that every child would get the best possible education and experience.

We intend to establish a highly distinctive, innovative and inclusive primary academy would be characterised by:

An ambitious, creative and challenging curriculum based on the tried and tested systems of Okehampton Primary School.

  • A unique focus on the development of pupils’ character, self-discipline and resilience through outdoor education.
  • A strong focus on environmental responsibility and education - building on the award-winning practices of Okehampton College and Okehampton Primary School.
  • A desire to serve a new, developing community by being open, inclusive, welcoming and nurturing to children of all faiths and world views.
  • A strong Christian ethos in which everything the school does is underpinned by Christian values.
