Spring 1

'There's moor to Sea'

In our first Spring half term the children and I explored the human and animal body.  We discovered that what we knew of skeletons needed slightly adjusting!  Ribs aren't in our legs and arms too...

We studied xrays of animals and humans of which we spotted similarities and differences.  Then we built our own skeletons to show off our new knowledge.

Next the children looked at the different types of joints in our bodies and how they assist muscles with movement.

Humans and animals need skeletons for support - what do they look like?

Rocks and Soils

Elicitation excercise - What do we already know?

After the initial lesson Hare Tor set out to explore the properties of rocks and then soils.

Children were tasked with answering these key questions each lesson;

Which rocks are permeable or impermeable? Can they be grouped together in any categories?  How are fossils formed?

What is soil made from?
